Sandy has joined her new family near Richmond in Surrey, where she met her new brother, Murphy. We asked Murphy how he felt about it all but so far no comment! Meanwhile George and Minky were collected by Maria and Tim who're taking them home to Warrington. We heard from Maria and Tim, who've been following our progress from North Cyprus: "We have been reading your posts — it is lovely to be able to follow your journey and see pictures of all of the animals including George and Minky. Tomorrow morning we are flying back to England so that we are in plenty of time to pick them up. We are flying via Istanbul so we will be 'leap frogging' you somewhere over Bulgaria. Hope the rest of your journey goes well and look forward to seeing you in the UK." [...]

From Cyprus to the UK: George and Minky

By |2016-10-17T11:00:25+01:00Monday, April 23, 2012|animal transportation, latest news, on the road, pet travel by road|

These two cats are among the pets who're travelling with Animalcouriers from North Cyprus to the UK. We plan to leave from Girne on Tuesday. George and Minky's owner, Maria, told us how she found both cats: "I found George on a building site as a 6 or 7 week old kitten. He was crying and had a terrible stomach upset. As it was August, the height of summer, he would almost certainly have died from dehydration had I not found him. He has had his fair share of vet visits since then and was seriously ill last year after being [...]

Sandy from North Cyprus has landed on her paws

By |2016-10-17T10:57:57+01:00Friday, August 24, 2012|animal rescue, latest news, updates from previous passengers|

Sandy travelled with us in April from North Cyprus. Jayne and her husband found her as an abandoned pup, and asked Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) to look after her until she could join our trip to the UK. Although she was quite a shy dog at the start of the journey, as time went on her confidence grew and she became great friends with Annie, another of our passengers. Courier J recalls that by the time she delivered Sandy to her new family, "any feelings I had that Sandy would not be okay vanished. I met Sandy's grandparents and their dog, and they [...]

Status update on our journey and the animals

By |2016-10-17T10:59:53+01:00Thursday, May 3, 2012|animal transportation, latest news, on the road, pet travel by road|

Driving today towards the port of Igoumenitsa, we were again struck by how calm the dogs and cats continue to be. They snooze all day then, as we prepare to walk the dogs, they're alert to all the sounds and signs. We can see them checking what we're doing: do they have our Bonios, our leads, the poo bags? Tails thumping as they watch our every move and wait patiently til it's their turn for a walk. Then a similar performance as supper is served. Depending on the ferry timetable, we'll reach Italy tomorrow morning (we hope) or at least [...]

Gathering together at the port

Margaret and Yulian from Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) and various owners turned up at the port this morning with their precious charges. It was a beautiful sunny morning and everyone was in high spirits as we sorted out paperwork and got all the dogs and cats safely on board. As usual, there was much shouting and clanking going on around the port, noisy generators working the engines, and big lorries shuddering up gangways. Our passengers sat patiently watching it all unfold, wondering what was going to happen next. [...]
